Tusweca Tiospaye Lakota Language and Culture Youth Summit
The 1st Annual Tusweca Tiospaye Lakota Language and Culture Youth Summit was held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Lakota Dome located at the Prairie Wind Casino on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The theme of the summit was "Empowering Our Youth Through Language and Culture".
40 students representing seven schools from across the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation took part in the summit. students listened to speakers and took part in activities that were designed to advocate the importance of Lakota language and culture. Speakers included: Mike Carlow - Tusweca Tiospaye, Maggie Ross - Shannon County Schools, Joe Lafferty, Wayne Weston - Cangleska, and Karen Little Wounded - Lakota Language Consortium.
